Fractopus: Weaving the Web of Inspiration
Q: Handuo, thanks for joining us! Can you tell us what Fractopus is all about?
Handuo: Thanks for having me! Fractopus, is a decentralized, open-source platform designed to give creators true ownership of their content while making it easier for fans to discover and connect with it. As a former film director, I’ve seen firsthand how creators—especially grassroots ones—struggle to control their work or reach their audience without platform gatekeeping. Our mission is to break those barriers. We’re building an inspiration network where users can link content across the internet—think YouTube videos, personal blogs, or tweets—using our browser extension. It’s all powered by human-curated connections, with AI helping to spark initial recommendations, creating a seamless, community-driven discovery experience.
Q: What inspired you to found Fractopus and tackle these challenges in content creation?
Handuo: It started with my own frustrations as a creator. I noticed how new artists, writers, or musicians often lose ownership of their work to platforms or struggle to get discovered because of algorithmic biases or information silos. For example, if you’re a crypto fan on YouTube, you might miss what’s trending on X until it’s old news. I wanted to create a system where creators could own their content, distribute it freely, and build deeper connections with their audience. That’s why we built Fractopus on decentralized infrastructure, with everything stored on-chain to ensure permanence and safety. It’s about giving power back to creators and making discovery more human, not just algorithm-driven.
Q: Fractopus has been called the world’s first inspiration network. How does it stand out from traditional content platforms?
Handuo: Unlike platforms like YouTube or X, which trap content in their ecosystems, Fractopus works everywhere. Our browser extension lets users link any URL—whether it’s a blog post, a tweet, or a video—to related content, creating a web of human-verified connections. AI helps suggest links, but the community decides what sticks through votes and interactions, kind of like liking a video. On Copus, users can visually map their discovery journey, seeing how one piece of content connects to another. There’s no central gatekeeper, no biased algorithm—just a transparent, open network that celebrates real human engagement.
Q: You’ve found strong product-market fit with the fanfiction community. What’s behind that success?
Handuo: Fanfiction creators are a perfect fit for us. Their work often lives in a legal gray area, and platforms like AO3 or X can take down content at any moment. With Fractopus, everything is decentralized and stored on-chain, so creators have permanent access to their work, even under legal pressure. Our browser extension also makes it easy to discover fan content across platforms, which fans love. Plus, we enable decentralized payments, letting fans support creators directly without middlemen or legal risks, unlike Patreon. Solving these pain points—discovery, ownership, and safe payments—has driven our traction, especially with this passionate community.
Q: Where is Fractopus today, and what milestones are you working toward?
Handuo: We’re growing fast. We’ve gone from 1,800 registered users and 1,500 monthly visits before April to 4,000 users and 30,000 visits now. Over 600 active creators have published 3,600 works, with 21,000 content links averaging 6–7 connections per post. That proves our vision of interconnected content resonates. Next, we’re launching our $WEB token to reward our “Weavers”—creators and fans who link and curate content. We’re also building a decentralized ad system where advertisers pay page owners and Weavers directly, cutting out middlemen. With 0G’s scalable storage, we’ll keep expanding to support richer content and more links.
Q: What’s your vision for Fractopus’s role in the future of digital content?
Handuo: I see creators moving away from centralized platforms toward their own websites and communities, with fans paying directly for content. Fractopus will be the backbone of that shift, connecting content across the decentralized web and ensuring creators retain ownership. Our open-source, on-chain model, paired with safe crypto payments, offers a freer, fairer alternative to platforms that can censor or demonetize at will. Over the next few years, we want to empower millions of creators to weave their own inspiration networks, making the internet feel more like a community than a corporate machine.
